CLEANING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To simplify configuration of the device, to evade contact between tip of a brush and an image carrier and to prevent deterioration of the device by constituting the device so that a part of a brush roll is eliminated and facilitating bringing into contact with and separation from the image carrier by positioning control. CONSTITUTION:In a color printing, that is when a toner image formed on the image carrier 3 is passed as it is, the part of the brush roll 1 where the brush is dropped out is faced to it and stopped. At this time, spacing between the brush roll 1 and the image carrier 3 can be the spacing where the formed toner image is not scratched and caused a turbulence, which is several tens to several hundreds microns. When the residue toner image is to be eliminated after the color image is transferred to a recording medium, the toner image is scraped off from the image carrier 3 by the rotation of the brush roll 1. Because the bringing into contact with and separation from the image carrier 3 can be carried out easily by controlling the rotation of the brush roll 1, the configuration is simplified and the good image formation without mechanical oscillation can be carried out.
