Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a new tetrasubstituted diphenoquinone compound having electronic function and useful as an electronic material, etc. CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I [R1 to R4 are 1-10C hydrocarbon group provided that at least two of R1 to R4 are >=4C atomic group substituted to the nucleus through quaternary carbon atom), e.g. 3,3'-bis(alpha,alpha,gamma,gamma- tetramethylbutyl)-5,5'-diphenyl-4,4'-diphenoquinone. The compound can be produced by contacting a disubstituted phenol of formula II and/or formula III with molecular oxygen in a polar solvent in the presence of a catalyst consisting of a complex of a copper salt and a t-amine.
