ANTILIPEMIA AGENT

PURPOSE:To provide a new benzoxazole derivative having an excellent antilipemia activity based on a serum cholesterol value-lowering action, a HDL- cholesterol value-raising action and/or a serum triglyceride value-lowering action, and useful as an antilipemia agent. CONSTITUTION:A benzoxazole derivative of formula I [R is (substituted) phenyl, 1,3-oxazol-4-yl, pyridyl; Alk is single bond, lower alkylene, (substituted) lower alkylene; the dotted line may be a double bond] or a pharmacologically acceptable salt thereof, e.g. 5-[dioxothazolidin-5-ylmethyl]-2-phenylbenzoxazole. The compound of formula I is obtained e.g. by condensing a compound of formula II (R is OH, alkoxy, reactive residue; Y is O, imino) with a dioxothiazolidine compound in the presence of a condensing agent.
