PREPARATION OF VINYL ACETATE

PURPOSE: To obtain a carrier catalyst having a noble metal shell by washing roasted support particles with an acid, besides impregnating the support particles with palladium or the like, together bringing the support particles into contact with a solution of a base and subsequently impregnating the support particles with an alkali metal compound. CONSTITUTION: A catalyst is constructed by carrying palladium, an alkali metal compound, a cadmium compound and gold or the like on support particles press formed from SiO2 or the like with the aid of a binder. In this case the roasted support particles are washed with an acid which does not react with SiO2 or the like until no further cations of the binder are released. Besides the support particles are impregnated with palladium, gold and cadmium. Furthermore, the impregnated support particles are brought into contact with a solution of a base until thickness of a noble metal shell generated thereon no longer changes. Then the support particles are impregnated with an alkali metal compound.
