Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To simplify the manufacture of a plate group for a lead storage battery by packing a paste into one surface of a retainer consisting of a nonwoven glass-fiber fabric before wrapping a grid-like base body made of a lead alloy in the retainer, followed by stacking thus formed plates to make a plate group. CONSTITUTION:A paste 2 composed of lead power and dilute sulfuric acid is packed into one surface of a retainer 1 used as an electrolyte-holding body and consisting of a nonwoven glass-fiber fabric. Then, a grid-like base body 3 consisting of a lead alloy is wrapped in the retainer 1 with the surface of the paste 2 contacting the base body 3 to form a positive plate 4 or a negative plate 5. Next, thus formed positive and negative plates 4 and 5 are alternately stacked thereby making a plate group for a sealed lead battery. Therefore, the close contact among the retainer 1, the pasty active material 2 and the base plate 3 is reliably maintained. Additionally, and breakage of the plates which might be caused by their deformation is prevented by thus assembling the members while wet into the plate group, thereby simplifying the manufacture and stabilizing the quality.
