Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide the org. nonlinear optical material which consists of an ion crystal having high mechanical strength and allowing the easy crystal growth and has an excellent quadratic nonlinear optical characteristic and the excellent wavelength conversion element constituted by using this nonlinear optical material. CONSTITUTION:A compd. which is the crystalline org. nonlinear optical material and contains a pi electron conjugation system contg. an electron-donative group and electron-acceptive electron in one molecule, an amino group having no concern with the pi electron conjugation system and a carboxyl group having no concern with the pi electron conjugation system is used. For example, 3-nitro- L-tyrosine is subjected to crystal growth and is adequately cut out. Quartz glass formed with a non-reflection coating is stuck to this crystal via a matching oil or resin to constitute the crystal 4 for wavelength conversion. This crystal is inserted into an optical resonator 6 constituted between the end face of a YAG crystal 3 and a mirror 5 surface, by which the wavelength conversion element is constituted.
