COMPOSITE BUFFER CABLE

PURPOSE: To obtain an improved optical fiber cable of a composite buffer type which may be reduced in its outside diameter and has high protective strength. CONSTITUTION: The single fiber cable includes (a) a central optical waveguide, (b) a layer 17 of a packing material compd. enclosing this optical fiber 15, (c) a layer 19 of aramid fibers enclosing this packing material compd. 17 and (d) a plastic jacket 21 enclosing the layer 19 of these aramid fibers. The multifber cable is provided as well. This cable includes (a) plural optical waveguide fibers 15, (b) a layer 29 of the aramid fibers enclosing these optical fibers, (c) packing material compd. 33 in contact with the inside surface of the layer 29 of the aramid fibers and the optical fibers and a plastic jacket 31 enclosing the layer 29 of the aramid fibers.
