Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the nonlinear optical material having good workability of a crystal and excellent light transmittability and the wavelength conversion element by using a specific org. ion crystal as the nonlinear material. CONSTITUTION:The nonlinear optical material is a nonlinear optical material consisting of the org. ion crystal and is the salt compd. of the 2-hydroxy-5- nitropyridine and the L-alginin expressed by formula II. The wavelength conversion element is constituted by inserting the crystal (nonlinear optical material) 43 for wavelength conversion into an optical resonator. The YAG crystal 42 is excited and oscillated by using a semiconductor laser 40. The optical resonator is constituted between the end face of the YAG crystal 42 and a mirror 44 surface. The wavelength conversion is executed with the high electric field intensity in the optical resonator as a basic wave by inserting crystal 43 for wavelength conversion into the optical resonator. The wavelength conversion element is constituted by using such nonlinear optical material as a part of an optical waveguide element.
