Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a highly accurate position control in a position control device for members such as arm of an industrial robot by making a correction securely to position information from an absolute encoder, when a machine direction is reverse to a direction of position information increasing of an abso lute value encoder. CONSTITUTION:In a method in which a connecting condition of two feedback signal cables from an encoder to a control part is switched over according to whether or not a positive direction of a machine is aligned with a direction of position information increasing, when a position information taken from the encoder for initial setting is positive in home position returning operation, the position information from the encoder is used hereafter as a present position as it is and, when it is negative, an information which is made by adding a value for an amount of one rotation to the present information from the encoder is used hereafter as a present position.
