Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide an antiviral extract composed of a hot-water extract of spirulina which is a kind of alga. CONSTITUTION:Body of spirulina is suspended in distilled water and heated at 70-100 deg.C for 10-120min. The extracted liquid is separated into the algal cell and liquid by centrifugal separation or filtration and the liquid is concentrated and optionally dried to obtain the objective extract. Since the hot-water extract of spirulina has remarkable antiviral activity, an antiviral pharmaceutical preparation, food additive, food and drink, especially a functional food having antiviral activity can be prepared by using the extract as an active component. Spirulina is an alga belonging to genus Spirulina. It has been used as a food and drink and confirmed to be safe. It is useful for preventing viral infection and inhibiting the spreading of the infected region.
