OPTICAL FIBER TAPE OR SHEET

PURPOSE:To develop the optical fiber tape which can be easily produced and has excellent characteristics by providing a transparent plastic layer on the outer periphery of an optical fiber having a fiber-sheath structure and further providing a plastic coating layer contg. a light reflective white pigment on the outer periphery thereof. CONSTITUTION:The optical fiber having a concentrical 4-layered structure is formed by a 4-layer composite spinning method using polymethyl methacrylate as a fiber material, a vinylidene fluoride/tetrafluoroethylene copolymer as a sheath material, polymethyl methacrylate as a transparent protective layer, and polymethyl methacrylate contg. rutile type titanium oxide as a material for forming a white layer. The fibers are paralleled just before cooling and solidifying and the fused optical fiber tape is formed by using a bundling guide. The optical fiber sheet which is formed in such a manner and is cut diagonally at the front has the high luminance of the light signal radiated from the inclined surface and the optical fiber sheet formed by laminating plural layers thereof can exhibit an extremely outstanding image transmission characteristic.
