ROTARY MAGNETIC RECORDING AND REPRODUCING DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent a recording and reproducing characteristic from being degraded due to the magnetization of a magnetic head by fitting a degaussing means, which degausses the magnetic head, at a certain part on a fixed drum not contacting with a magnetic tape. CONSTITUTION:A degaussing means 5 formed by plural permanent magnets with the different strength of generated magnetic fields is fitted to the upper edge of the outer peripheral face of a fixed drum 3 at a part not contacting with a magnetic tape 4. This degaussing means 5 are arranged so that the respective adjacent permanent magnets alternately invert the polarities and the strength of magnetic fields 6 to be respectively generated are successively decreased following the rotating of a rotary drum 1. On the other hand, the strength of the magnetic field 6 impressed to a magnetic head 2 by the permanent magnet, to which the magnetic head 2 of the degaussing means 5 is first passed, is set enough for magnetically saturating the magnetic head 2. Therefore, while utilizing a period when the magnetic head 2 does not slide on the magnetic tape 4, the magnetic head 2 is degaussed each time the rotary drum 1 is rotated. Thus, the recording and reproducing characteristic is prevented from being degraded due to the magnetization of the magnetic head.
