Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To automatically enable accurate and uniform measurement by rotating a spherical object at least two times with rotation angles varied, measuring its outer peripheral diameter by laser and comparing it with a reference value. CONSTITUTION:A laser outer diameter measuring device 3 measures an outer diameter size of a sample while a time period of a shade made with the sample scanned by laser light is calculated. A temporarily holding means 4 of the sample comprises an elevating frame 41 which is elevated by a cylinder 42, and th frame 41 has a cylinder 43 for rotation and rotates an elevation lever 45 at least by 360 degrees with operation of the cylinder 43. After the sample which has been supplied to the measuring device 3 one at a time is received by the holding means 4, it is elevated to a measurement position with the laser light and also rotated so that a rotation direction passing through the approximate center of the sample is measured. Then measurement is made while the sample is rotated at least once with a measurement angle differed, and by having the measurements value subjected to comparison calculation with a reference value to be selected, accurate and uniform measurement is possible automatically.
