Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To prevent the respective electrodes of thin-film transistors (TETRs) from being damaged by spacers by constituting a surface protective film of two layers; an insulating film and a film having the hardness higher than the hardness of the insulating film. CONSTITUTION:The liquid crystal display device is formed with the TFTRs, matrix electrodes and the insulating film 12 consisting of SiNx so as to cover the surface of the respective constituting elements of picture element electrodes 11. The film 13 having the hardness higher than the hardness of the insulating film 12 is formed on the insulating film 12. The surface protective film is constituted of the insulating film 12 and the high-hardness film 13. The material to form the high-hardness film 13 is preferably exemplified by silicon carbide (SiC) or tantalum oxide (TaOx). An oriented film 14 consisting of a polyimide film subjected to a rubbing treatment is provided to cover the insulating film 12 and the high-hardness film 13. Then, the respective electrodes of the TFTRs are substantially prevented from being damaged by the spacers even if the spacers 3 are positioned on the TFTRs. The liquid crystal display device which has decreased display defects and excellent display quality is obtd. |
