CONSTITUTION:A compound of formula I (A is methylene. O; R , R are H. lover alkyl, aralkyl; R is H, amino-protecting group; m is 0-3 n is 1, 2). For example, 3-[1-carboxy-2-(4-piperidinylethylsulfonyl)ethyl]amino-2-oxo-2,3,4,5- tetrahydro-1H-1-benzazepine-1-acetic acid. The compound of formula I is produced by oxidizing a compound of formula II with an oxidizing agent such as hydrogen peroxide in water or an organic solvent such as methanol.
