Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To provide the title brick to be used as a lining material for iron and steel refining facilities, improved in heat spalling resistance and hot strength. CONSTITUTION:The objective brick can be obtained by incorporating (A) a pitch-soluble phenolic resin as binder in (B) a brick raw material comprising (1) 1-40wt.% of a carbonaceous refractory material containing at least pitch and/or tar and () the rest of magnesia followed by kneading and molding. In the matrix of the present brick before carbonization, said pitch-soluble phenolic resin and pitch and/or tar, which are compatibilized with each other, are homogeneously dispersed; therefore, the matrix after carbonization represents a fine mosaic texture, leading to providing the present brick with both elasticity and mechanical strength.
