Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a plane fluorescent tube being used for a back light by improving the brightness decrease of the peripheral portion of a plane front glass plate so as to be able to obtain nearly uniform brightness distribution on its whole surface. CONSTITUTION:A plane fluorescent tube A is formed into a reverse trapezoid- like so as generated light from a fluorescent substance layer 7 to irradiate directionally to the peripheral portion of a front glass plate 1 by means of respective side and end glass plates 3, 4, 5, 6 being expansively inclining toward a front glass plate 1. The fluorescent substance layer 18 of the whole faces of the respective side and end glass plates 12, 13, and of the peripheral portions 10a, 11a of the respective front and back glass plates 10, 11 of a rectangular parallelopiped-like plane fluorescent tube B are formed comparatively thick. Thereby plenty of light generated from the fluorescent substance layer 18 is directionally applied to the peripheral portion 10a of the front glass plate 10 so as to nearly unify its brightness distribution.
