PRODUCTION OF VINYL CHLORIDE RESIN

PURPOSE:To prevent the deposition of polymer scale on the wall of a polymerizer and to improve the plasticizer absorption, gelling properties, etc., of the produced resin by using two specified dispersion stabilizers together in the suspension (co)polymerization of a vinyl chloride monomer. CONSTITUTION:A vinyl chloride monomer or both of this monomer and a comonomer (e.g. ethylene) are added to water containing 0.03-0.3 pt.wt., per 100 pts.wt. monomer, cellulosic dispersion stabilizer (e.g. methylcellulose) and 0.03-0.3 pt.wt., per 100 pts.wt. monomer, dispersion stabilizer comprising disodium salt of alkyl diphenyl ether disulfonic acid of the formula (wherein R is 8-22 C alkyl). The monomer is suspension-polymerized by heating to produce a vinyl chloride resin. The plasticizer absorption, gelling properties, etc., of the formed resin can be further improved by further adding 0.02-0.3 pt.wt., per 100 pts.wt. monomer, mercapto compound (e.g. n-dodecyl mercaptan).
