Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To provide a recording and reproducing device capable of loading/ unloading smoothly, control to stop a tape guiding member at an optimum position in accordance with a tape traveling mode, executing a smooth tape traveling, moreover, executing an optimum evading motion at the time of power- off, etc., and also, corresponding to the change of tape winding angle. CONSTITUTION:The recording and reproducing device is provided with an absolute type encoder 14 to continuously detect a tape guiding position by a loading ring (tape guiding member) 10 for the loading/unloading of the tape 4 and a control part 18 to control a loading motor 13 for driving the loading ring 10 in accordance with an outputted signal from this encoder 14.
