PURPOSE:To enable a cold-billet, warm billet, hot billet, etc., to be heated to the necessary temp. without waste of thermal energy and time by selecting the necessary conveying course according to temp. of the steel billet for efficient heating. CONSTITUTION:The conveying means 1a, 1b, 1c enabling the steel billets a to be transferred in the longitudinal direction, are installed, respectively and two or more furnace bodies A, B having different inside furnace temps. are adjoiningly arranged parallel. Opening holes 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b are arranged in the faced side walls at the end parts in the adjoining furnace bodies, respectively so as to be possible to shift the steel billet a in the furnace at the low temp. side to the furnace at the high temp. side through the opening holes 6a, 6b, 7a, 7b and also charging holes 15, 16 are arranged in the side wall facing the opening holes in the furnace body at the low temp. side and an extracting hole 27 is arranged in the side wall facing the opening holes 6b, 7b in the furnace body at the high temp. side.
