Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE: To determine if a lean correction is required or not when a tank ventilating device is opened only in the case where it is determined that fuel vapor is almost securely supplied from the tank ventilating device actually. CONSTITUTION: Gat tightness of a tank ventilating device of an automobile having a tank 10, an adsorption filter 12, a tank ventilation valve, and a connection device to connect each part of these to the next part is inspected The tank ventilation valve is first closed, pressure difference between pressure in the tank 10 and pressure at an end part of a conduit continuous from the tank 10 to the adsorption filter 12 is detected. A time integration of this pressure difference is formed, and when the time integration exceeds a specified value, the tank ventilating valve 14 is opened. It is determined if lean correction of fuel supply by a lambda controller is required or no when the tank ventilating valve 14 is opened, and a lean correction signal is used as a determination reference for gas tightness of the device.
