Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain the title composition which shows ferroelectric properties in a wide range of temperature, difficultly undergoes phase separation and is improved in film-forming properties and orientability by mixing a specified liquid crystal copolymer with a non-liquid crystal chiral compound. CONSTITUTION:A diene compound of formula I (wherein r and p are each 2-5; m is 1-20; R is a group of formula II, III or the like; R is -COOR , -OR or-OCOR ; R is a group of formula IV; R and R are each -CH3 or halogen; a and d are each 0-10, provided that when R is -CH3, d is not 0; and b is 0-1) and a silicon compound (ii) of formula V (wherein q is 0-3) in an amount substantially equimolar to the amount of the dieve compound are hydrosilylatred in the presence of a catalyst in a solvent to obtain a liquid crystal copolymer containing units of formula VI and units of formula VII in a molar ratio of about 1:1. The copolymer is mixed with 5-95wt.% non-liquid crystal chiral compound to obtain the title composition.
