PURPOSE:To prevent false display when the liquid level of fuel fluctuates with acceleration and deceleration of a vehicle and, in addition, to make it possible to always display the residual quantity of the fuel without delay in response, in a device detecting the liquid level of the fuel and displaying the residual quantity of the fuel. CONSTITUTION:A vehicle acceleration S is determined on the basis of a detection signal from a vehicle speed sensor 3, a liquid level is detected by a liquid level sensor 1 when this vehicle acceleration S is a prescribed value K or below, and the residual quantity of fuel corresponding to this liquid level is displayed in a liquid level display unit 7. When the vehicle acceleration S exceeds the prescribed value K, on the other hand, the display of the residual quantity of the fuel based on a detection signal from the liquid level sensor 1 is prohibited and the content of the display of the residual quantity of the fuel in the display unit 7 is maintained.
