ICEBREAKER

PURPOSE: To provide an icebreaking ship whose hull width is substantially accorded with the width of a fairway to be formed by icebreaking tasks, in order to maintain both of good icebreaking ability and turning navigability. CONSTITUTION: A forward quarter 2 of the hull is equipped with first icebreaking means 5 and 5' on both side flanks 3 and 3' in the vicinity of the water line W, while second icebreaking means 9 and 9' are set up at some distance behind the first, and a hull wall surface area lying between these two icebreaking means is installed in the rear of the hull so as to make it substantially accord with a perpendicular line of the inside turning circle of the ship. In addition, each side face of the second icebreaking means 9, 9' is restricted so as not to exceed the width of the hull, and the hull wall surface areas lying between these two icebreaking means set up behind the hull are formed as recessed parts 6, 6' on the inside of the hull.
