COMPOSITION FOR ORAL CAVITY

PURPOSE:To obtain a composition for the oral cavity, capable of promoting proliferation of gingival tissues, preventing swelling, edema, hemorrhage, etc., in inflammation and exhibiting excellent effects on prevention and treatment of gingivitis and periodontitis and good in safety and usability. CONSTITUTION:A composition for the oral cavity is obtained by blending saikosaponin b1 (R is beta-OH) and/or saikosaponin b2 (R is alpha-OH) expressed by the formula as an essential ingredient with other ingredient. The resultant composition has the aforementioned effects. Action on periodontal diseases is synergistically improved by using a cell growth factor, tranexamic acid, its salt and/or its derivative together with the above-mentioned compound. Furthermore, absorption of the compound expressed by the formula in mucous membranes in the oral cavity is promoted by using a surfactant such as (a) a nonionic surfactant and (b) a surfactant having N in the molecule other than the ingredient (a), the surfactant (a) and (c) a nonionic surfactant without any N in the molecule, (d) an amphoteric surfactant and/or a semipolar surfactant and (e) a nonionic surfactant having N in the molecule or an amine oxide in combination.
