WATER ABSORBING TAPE

PURPOSE:To prevent the running of water inside a cable when water infiltrates into the cable by forming a water absoring composition layer or layers containing water absoring resin and a binder on one face or both faces of a substrate and exposing the water absorbing resin. CONSTITUTION:A water absorbing composition layer 2 is formed on a substrate 1 composed of synthetic resin film or a fabric of synthetic fiber or a non-woven sheet or the like, and holes H are provided on said water absorbing composition layer 2. Water absorbing composition layer 3 is exposed. A binder 4 used for the water absorbing composition layer prevents the peeling-off of water absorbing resin blended with therein. The water absorbing resin 3 is a polymer provided with water absorbing capability of several tens to several thousands times of its own weight when being brought into contact with water. In the case a water absorbing composition thus manufactured is soluble in an organic solvent, the composition is turned into a film by coating or other methods known to the public, and in the case the composition is of plasticizing properties, the composition is turned into a film by the method such as calender rolling, and said film is laminated with the substrate 1 by a bonding agent or the like to form the water absorbing composition layer 2 on the substrate 1.
