WATER ABSORBING TAPE

PURPOSE:To prevent the running of water inside a cable when the water infiltrates into the cable by forming a water absoring composition layer or layers containing water absorbing resin and a binder on one face or both faces of a substrate and making water absorbing resin adhered on said water absorbing composition layer. CONSTITUTION:A water absorbing composition layer 2 is formed on a substrate 1 composed of a synthetic resin film or a fabric of synthetic fiber or a non- woven sheet or the like, and water absorbing resin 5 is made adhered on said water absorbing composition layer 2. A binder 4 used for the water absorbing composition layer 2 prevents the peeling-off of water absorbing resin 3 blended with the binder. The water absorbing resin 3 is a polymer provided with the water absorbing capability of tens to thousands times of its own weight effective when the same is brought into contact with water. As for the method of making the water absorbing resin adhered to the water absoring composition layer 2, pressure can be applied for solidification in the case a water absorbing composition is adhesive under the normal temperature, while heat can be applied in the case of a binder of low viscosity.
