MANUFACTURE OF THIN FILM MAGNETIC HEAD

PURPOSE:To provide a method of uniformly processing a gap depth of each magnetic head element at the time of manufacturing a thin film magnetic head so that the gap depth of all magnetic head elements becomes constant in each slider block. CONSTITUTION:On the occasion of forming processing reference patterns 18a, 18b at both ends of each slider block 17, a mark 12 for checking linearity is formed between the magnetic head elements 3 in the predetermined positional relationship for the internal end position of a gap of the magnetic head elements 3, the position of the mark 21 for checking linearity is optically detected under the condition that the slider block 17 is fixed to a jig 20 prior to the grinding of the gap depth processing surface 19 in order to confirm whether the linearlity of the train of linearity checking marks 21 is within the allowable range or not.
