Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To manufacture a separator having a sufficient quality not to cause liquid leakage of a battery by a simple process. CONSTITUTION:A strip absorbing material 1 to be used as a separator is struck by a die 5 to give a separator 2 with a prescribed shape. The separator has whiskers in the outer circumference and the whiskers are burnt out by passing the separator 2 inside of a hollow heater 9. Leakage of an electrolyte of a battery can be prevented by burning the whiskers of the separator. Also, since the separator is led to pass the inside of the hollow heater, the whiskers can be burned out without sticking of a melted substances of the separator to an apparatus.
