EXTRACTION OF WATER-SOLUBLE COMPONENT OF SEAWEED, CHONDRIA CRASSICAULIS HARVEY

PURPOSE:To efficiently extract a water-soluble composition from a seaweed, Chondria crassicaulis Harvy, where the extract contains an antimicrobial active substance usable as a controlling agent of putrefying bacteria for food and food additive, as an antimicrobial agent for coating compound of building and a controlling agent for household articles of consumption. CONSTITUTION:Chondria crassicaulis Harvy of seaweed 1 is halvely dried, finely cut and immersed in an aqueous solution of acetic acid 3. By this treatment, Chondria crassicaulis Harvy of seaweed 1 is swollen, the viscous components are eluted in the aqueous solution of acetic acid 3 and eliminated, and simultaneously, cells re broken and a water-soluble component is apt to be eluted in extracting water. Then the Chondria crassicaulis Harvy of seaweed 1 is taken out from the aqueous solution of acetic acid 3, immersed in the extracting water 5 and a water-soluble component having antibacterterial activity against Bacillus subtilis, Staphylococcus aureus, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, etc., is efficiently extracted from the Chondria crassicaulis Harvy of seaweed 1.
