PRODUCTION OF GLAZED SUBSTRATE

PURPOSE:To obtain the glazed substrate which obviates the generation of build-up, chipping, etc., at ends by forming a glaze layer on a ceramic substrate, then cutting or etching the ends of the glaze layer perpendicularly to the substrate. CONSTITUTION:The glazed layer 2 is formed atop the alumina ceramic substrate 1. The glazed layer 2 in the position on the side slightly inner than the end of the alumina ceramic substrate 1 is then cut perpendicularly to the alumina ceramic substrate 1 by using a diamond cutter, etc. Further, the top end of the alumina ceramic substrate 1 in the lower part thereof is cut perpendicularly. The similar operations are thereafter performed on the other three sides, by which the glazed substrate is obtd. The glazed substrate obtd. in such a manner has no build-up, chipping, etc., on the ends and, therefore, the degree of freedom in designing of a thermal head is obtd. and the multi-piece production is facilitated. In addition, the yield of the operations is improved.
