ANTIMALARIAL PHARMACEUTICAL COMPOSITION

PURPOSE: To obtain a pharmaceutical composition having synergistic action against malaria by formulating arteether with quinine or quinine and further mefloquine. CONSTITUTION: This pharmaceutical composition comprises arteether and quinine and mefloquine in addition to a conventional auxiliary and/or vehicle. The composition has action enhanced against chloroquine-resistant strains. In administration in oral rout, 0.2-2.0g arteether and 750-2,000mg quinine are administered to adult patient and 0.02-2g arteether and 250-1,000mg quinine are administered after 6hrs and further same amounts of arteether and quinine as the above amounts are administered thereto for 3-6 days. A mixture of quinine with mefloquine containing at least 1% quinine can be used instead of administration of quinine.
