CATALYTIC CONVERTER FOR CARBON MONOXIDE FROM CARBONACEOUS HEAT SOURCE

PURPOSE: To obtain a heat source contg. a low-cost catalyst for conversion of CO into a harmless material by incorporating carbon and a metallic seed convertible into a catalyst into a heat source. CONSTITUTION: A carbonaceous heat source contg. carbon and a metallic seed convertible into a catalyst is obtd. The carbon is preferably colloidal graphite or activated carbon. The metallic seed may be an arbitrary metal-contg. compd. convertible into metal oxide having catalytic performance and it is preferably carbide of Al, Ti, W, Mn, Nb or a mixture of them. When the heat source is burned, the metallic seed produces a catalyst for conversion of CO generated as a by-product by the burning into a harmless material. The heat source has such a low ignition temp. that it can easily be ignited under conditions typified by the conventional smoking conditions and supplies heat enough to emit a flavor from a flavor bed.
