TYPE JUDGMENT SYSTEM OF MAGNETIC DISK DEVICE

PURPOSE:To accurately judge the type of a magnetic disk device (MDE) without installing a backup memory by a method wherein the ID field of the MDE is read and the type of the MDE is judged according to the read content. CONSTITUTION:An information processing system 1 judges, by using a type judgment request means 2 and an ID read means 3, the type of a plurality of MDE's 4 which are provided with a plurality of data fields and with an ID field repesending the sequence of the data fields. Then, the final cylinder ID part of the desired MDE 4 is read by using the means 3, and the type is judged on the assumption that the read-out content has the largest number of cylinders out of the MDE's 4.
