AUTOMATIC TRANSACTION MACHINE

PURPOSE:To prevent a forged card being used by using an emboss reader consisting of a CCD line sensor installed in a card processing means and an alternately flashing light emitting element for detecting the presence or absence of emboss of cards being conveyed by an emboss reader and by interrupting the transaction when no emboss is detected. CONSTITUTION:A card processing means is provided with a card reader/writer and an emboss reader 24. A CCD licenser 20 that is installed in the direction perpendicular to the traveling direction of card 2 of the emboss reader 24 receive reflected light of projected light from light emitting element 22 and 21 that are installed at both right and left sides and that illuminating alternately, and via sensor 24, the presence or absence of emboss is detected based on comparison of both reflected lights. Further, if no emboss is detected, transaction is interrupted, thereby an illegal transaction can be prevented.
