Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To periodically lessen bearing pressure between the teeth of each element in a variable valve timing mechanism while being synchronized with the torque fluctuation of an engine by intentionally widening the amplitude of the torque fluctuation of the engine when valve timing is changed. CONSTITUTION:A valve timing change detecting means 31 detecting change in valve timing, is provided. A torque amplitude regulating means is controlled by a torque fluctuation control means 25 in such a way that the torque fluctuation of an engine is widened in amplitude while being synchronized with change in valve timing with signals received from the valve timing change detecting means 31. This thereby enables valve timing to be quickly changed even if a valve timing change mechanism 5 is provided for a multi-cylinder engine.
