Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To inexpensively obtain an activated carbon having large specific surface area, excellent in mechanical strength, etc., by coating the surface of granulated coal with pulverized infusible material and then treating the coal in the production process of activated carbon by subjecting granulated coal having caking property to carbonization and activation treatments. CONSTITUTION:The surface of granulated coal having caking property such as caking coal is preliminarily coated with finely pulverized infusible material. As for the infusible material, powder coke is preferable, and it is applied on the surface of the granulated coal with using a binder (e.g. starch, polyvinyl alcohol). Then the treated granulated coal is treated for oxidization, preferably in an oxygen-contg. gas, and carbonized and activated to obtain activated carbon. The obtd. activated carbon shows excellent performances for such usage as to remove harmful matter in water or in waste water, to absorb volatile org. matter such as gasoline and poisonous gas or bad odor in exhaust gas, etc. Moreover, the obtd. carbon gives little powder loss when treated for recovery. |
