Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To obtain a magnetic head with a better characteristic by making a thickness of a non-magnetic layer in a direction of running a magnetic medium larger only on the side of a slide contact surface of the magnetic medium. CONSTITUTION:Center cores 1a and 1b are fastened on a C-shaped core 3 on the R/W side and on a C-shaped core 4 on the Er side respectively. Then, recessed grooves G and H with depths C and D are formed in the respective center cores 1a and 1b adjoining on an R/W gap 5 and an Er gap 6 and a side of the core 1a is cut off to the recessed groove C so that a step is formed in the rear of any one 1a of the center cores corresponding to dimensions of a thickness B of a thinner non-magnetic layer 11. Both the R/W core part 12 and the Er core part 13 are made to abut each other to let the recessed grooves G and H match each other and a non-magnetic material 7 is made to flow into a gap between the cores 1a and 1b finally to be cut laterally along the broken line. The part between the recessed grooves G and H makes a non-magnetic layer 10 of a thickness A. Thus, the thickness of the non-magnetic layer interposed at a center core intermediate part is made larger partially on the moving side of a head layer alone.
