UNDERWATER ANTIFOULING AGENT

PURPOSE:To provide an underwater antifouling agent exhibiting an excellent effect for a long period by compounding a hydroxy- or halogenated triphenylmethane, cuprous oxide, copper alloy or copper powder, a tartaric acid alkali metal salt or metal salt, and a naphthenic metal salt, etc. CONSTITUTION:An underwater antifouling agent comprises 1-10 pts.wt. of a compound of formula I (X is OH, halogen; Y is halogen, alkyl NO2, CN; n is 0.1-5), 10-20 pts.wt. of at least one of copper monoxide, copper alloy powder and copper powder, 2-10 pts.wt. of at least one of tartaric acid alkali metal salt or metal salt, and 5-20 pts.wt. of a compound of formula II (R is aryl, alkyl, alkenyl, cycloalkyl; Z is metal atom; n is 1-3). The agent is prepared by dissolving the compounds in a solvent such as xylol and subsequently evaporating the solvent. The agent does not have unpleasant smell and irritability, and has low toxicity, good adhesiveness to fishing nets and excellent bending resistance. The agent may be added to an acrylic resin, etc.
