METHOD FOR HOLDING SEMI-SOLIDIFIED METAL SLURRY

PURPOSE:To enable holding of solid phase ratio in slurry and fluidity by giving ultrasonic wave in molten metal through an immersion horn to uniformly disperse solidified metal particles suspended in the molten metal and restraining aggregation and coarsening of solidified metal particles. CONSTITUTION:By giving the semi-solidified metal slurry 7 received in a holding vessel 8 from a semi-solidified particle producing apparatus the ultrasonic wave through the horn immersed into bath while holding to the prescribed temp., the suspended solidified metal particles are uniformly dispersed. Further, the aggeregation and coasening are restrained and this can be held without deteriorating the characteristic of slurry, such as fluidity. Further, as the macro-flow of molten metal by stirring during holding is scarsely developed, involution of the air developed in the case of mechanical stirring, is not perfectly developed. By this method, the solidified metal particles can be uniformly dispersed and the solid phase ratio and the fluidity of semi-solidified metal slurry can be held.
