PURPOSE:To select an optional program and to simply attain video recording and sound recording by comparing a character string obtained by reading optically a program guide table with a character string from a keyboard or a key word given in advance. CONSTITUTION:Picture information of a program table read by an image scanner 5 is fetched in a memory RAM of a computer 4. Then the information is stored in a video memory of a monitor 3 and displayed. When the information is retrieved, characters of the picture information stored in a prescribed area in the memory RAM are recognized and the result is stored in other area of the memory RAM. Then a broadcast time and a broadcast channel are selected from the picture information of the program entered from a keyboard, registered in the memory RAM and subject to character recognition and the result is stored in a prescribed area of the memory RAM. Then the keyboard 8 is used to command the program to be reserved to a video recorder 2 to allow a timer function of the video recorder 2 to be executed. Thus, a desired program is simply video/sound-recorded.
