Zusammenfassung:PURPOSE:To enable each hard disk drive(HDD) to be recognized as the one provided with the same performance by performing read/write control fitting in the hard disk drive operated at slow speed. CONSTITUTION:When a system is started up, a CPU incorporated in a system board 1 reads an identification code representing kind from the HDD 2 or the HDD 4 via an HDD port 3, and stores the identification code in a RAM incorporated in the board 1. Thence, the formatting operation of the HDD 2 or HDD 4 is started by sending a format command code to the HDD 2 or HDD 4 from the CPU. The CPU discriminates the identification code written on the RAM by the completion of the operation, and the operation is completed as it is when the identification code shows the one representing the operation of the HDD operated at slow speed out of two kinds of connectable HDDs, the when it is discriminated that the HDD operated at fast speed is connected, queuing is performed, and operating time is fitted in that of the HDD operated at slow speed. Thereby, it is possible to enable the HDD to be recognized as the one with the same performance even when any kind of HDDs connected to the computer is connected.
