Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To improve repetitive performance by utilizing the equil. relation of a swelling degree by the electric field environment of a high-polymer gel to make display. CONSTITUTION:At least one of electrodes 2,4 is transparent electrodes of ITO consisting of indium oxide-tin oxide and substrates 1,5 carry both electrodes 2,4. In addition, a cell for crimping a high-polymer gel soln. 6 is constituted. The high-polymer gel soln. 6 is constituted of the high-polymer gel 7 and a solvent (water) 8. The high-polymer gel 7 which is changed in swelling degree when impressed with a voltage is used. The high-polymer gel 7 shrinks by releasing the solvent by a phase change and the ratio at which the high polymer occupies in the gel increases accordingly if a DC voltage is impressed by the electrodes 2,4. A difference in the refractive index from the solvent is then increased. The displaying is made by the physical change in this way and the repetitive characteristic is improved.
