Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To utilize the energy of a light source with maximum effect and to form an image at a high speed by using a 0th-order diffracted light beam obtained by an acoustooptical modulator as a light beam for forming an image. CONSTITUTION:The acoustooptical modulator 105R modulates the intensity of a laser beam fetched from a red laser beam 121 as the 0th-order diffracted light beam in accordance with image data inputted from the outside. Then, the projection directions of a blue laser beam 123, a green laser beam 122 and the red laser beam 121 are mutually aligned by a beam combiner 114, and the laser beam 124 in which the laser beams of three colors are composited is formed. By using the 0th-order diffracted light whose intensity is higher than that of a 1st-order diffracted light is obtained as the light beam for forming the image, the energy of the light source is utilized with the maximum effect and the image is formed at a high speed.
