Zusammenfassung: | PURPOSE:To extend the usable time period of a radiation guard mat and at the same time prevent change of the mat into a radioactive waste by setting the content of antimony in a base cloth and/or shielding material to a weight value which is not more than 0.08% of the weight of the mat. CONSTITUTION:The radiation guard mat being in the form of a rectangular flexible mat is equipped, at its outer surface, with an external base cloth 1 and has metal fittings 2 at its end portions. In this case, phosphoric ester of about 9%, instead of antimony trioxide contained 'Hypalon(R)' (chlorosulfonated polyethylene) constituting a coating agent for the external base cloth 1 and base cloth, is used as a coating agent for the purpose of preventing such cloths from having radioactivity. Note that the shielding material is not limited to lead filling but may be lead grains, lead sheeting or other shielding material. Conventionally, since the antimony contained in the radiation guard mat is made to have radioactivity mat per se has radioactivity. When the amount of antimony contained in the mat is reduced in this way, the degree of making the mat radioactive is also decreased and in consequence both the radioactive substance contained in the mat and the surface dose rate also are made small. |
