EMULATION SYSTEM FOR ROTARY STORAGE DEVICE

PURPOSE:To prevent waiting for rotation from being generated by command overrun in the case of emulation by setting the maximum length of a gap to be obtained and formatting a record while guaranteeing the maximum number of minimal records to be stored in one track. CONSTITUTION:In order to realize the recording format of a first rotary storage device at a second rotary storage device having specification different from that of the first rotary storage device, the record is formatted by setting the maximum length of the gap to be obtained while guaranteeing the maximum number of minimal records to be stored in one track. Namely, when there is difference in the dimension of a data field between the conventional device and the new device, one segment for this difference is allocated to a gap before the data field, for example. Thus, waiting for rotation or malfunction, etc., can be prevented from being generated by the command overrun caused by the lack of the gap length or the like.
