Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To produce a device at a few process by constituting a light valve element of a phase changing member layer and a pair of dielectric layers provided so that they interpose this phase changing member layer. CONSTITUTION:Chalcogen is the main element of the light valve element. For example, the phase changing member layer 1 constituted of GeSbTe is provided. The phase changing member layer 1 is protected in a state where both sides are interposed between a pair of dielectric layers 2 and 3. Since the driving signal of a light source 11 is modulated according to one of each primary color signal of a video signal which is inputted, the intensity of a laser beam emitted is varied according to a primary color signal lens. The laser beam is supplied to an XY scanner 14 through a collimator lens 13, and deflects the laser beam in an XY direction. A deflected beam goes through an objective lens 15 and irradiates the light valve element 16. Thus, a video shown by a video signal is generated on the element 16. Reflected light is reflected by a corresponding dichroic mirror 17, and made incident on the element 16 as a projected light.
