THIN-FILM MAGNETIC HEAD

PURPOSE:To prevent the change in the resolving power and peak shift of recording and reproducing characteristics by forming the magnetic recording medium end of a recessed part formed as a gap depth regulating end and positioning this regulating end on the side flush with the rising part of the step part on the magnetic recording medium on the front surface of an upper core or forward of the rising part. CONSTITUTION:The magnetic recording medium side and of the recessed part 6 formed on the surface of the lower core 3 is formed as the gap depth regulating end A. After the film of a thin-film coil 8 is formed in the position corresponding to the recessed part 6 on the lower core 3, the step part 8a on the magnetic recording medium W side and the step part 8b of the rear part are formed by partly removing an interlayer insulating film 7; thereafter, the upper core 10 is formed via a gap layer 9. The step part 8a is so formed as to exist backward of the gap depth regulating end A in this way so that the gap depth requlating end A is positioned flush with the rising part B of the step part on the magnetic recording medium W side on the upper surface of the upper core 10 or forward of this part. The change in the resolving power and peak shift of the recording and reproducing characteristics is obviated in this way.
