PREPARATION OF TANNED LEATHER WITH FINE GRAIN PATTERN AND FINE BREAK

PURPOSE:To obtain a tanned leather with a fine grain pattern and fine breaks by dipping a belt in an alkaline solution before treatment with a tannin, an organic tanning agent, etc. CONSTITUTION:A belt is dipped in an alkaline solution such as a phosphate buffer or a carbonate buffer having a pH of 8.5 or above. Then the belt is dipped in a weakly acidic (pH of 3.5 or above) or a neutral solution, if necessary, before treatment with a vegetable tannin a synthetic tannin, an organic tanning agent (e.g. formaldehyde, glutardialdehyde, etc.) or a mixture thereof to produce tanned leather.
