Zusammenfassung:	PURPOSE:To achieve labor saving and to eliminate unsafe work by inserting a connection piece by an automatic insertion means and checking the insertion state of the connection piece by an image processor. CONSTITUTION:A walking arm 5 revolves an arm having a steel pipe 2 placed thereon to laterally feed the steel pipe 2 and the steel pipe 2 stored in a skid 1 is moved to a transfer apparatus. A connection piece 6 is inserted in the steel pipe 2 on the walking arm 5 by an automatic insertion means. Further, it is checked whether the insertion state of the connection piece is well during the operation of the walking arm 5. This check is performed by an image processor consisting of a camera 8 photographing the end part of the steel pipe 2, a light source 9 and an arithmetic part 10. When the insertion state of the connection piece is not abnormal, a connection piece inserting pipe 11 is sent to a roller conveyor being a feed apparatus. The steel pipes are successively connected on a roller conveyor 14 to be supplied to a plastic coating process.
